Husband and wife, photographer Michael A. Smith and photographer/painter Paula Chamlee are hosting a book signing, a book and print sale, and open studio at their home/studio in Ottsville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13 from noon to 5 PM.
This event is in celebration of the publication of their newest books: Iceland: A Personal View, Vol. I by Paula and Iceland: A Personal View, Vol. II by Michael and Ocean Variations by Michael. Michael and Paula have 14 published books between them, including two volumes of their photographs of Tuscany, and all will be on sale except two titles where the editions have sold out.
They will also open their studio by appointment Saturday and Sunday December 19 and 20 and at other times during December. Their location is not on GPS (the one on GPS is not correct), so if you have not been to their place before, please call them for directions: 610-847-2005.
The photographs of Smith and Chamlee have been collected by over 140 art museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
For three summers, in 2004, 2006, and 2010 Smith and Chamlee shipped their old Land Rover to Iceland, lived out of it, (there is a tent on the roof), and traveled and photographed throughout the amazing country of Iceland. Michael's large-format 8x20-inch view camera weighs 35 pounds and Paula's 8x10-inch weighs 12 pounds. They make most of their photographs in black and white and continue to make prints in the darkroom. Their large color prints are scanned from 8x10-inch color negatives.
